01OCT09 - North Tonawanda, NY

Thursday morning we crossed back into Canada to “shorten” the drive to western New York. We crossed back into the USA at Niagara Falls, and once again Corrie had no problem with her criminal record getting by USA officials. Dan had warned Corrie to snack and save room for a late lunch in Buffalo, NY.

So after setting up camp, if was off to the Anchor Bar, site of the creation of Buffalo Chicken Wings. We got there just after the lunch time crowd and split an order of wings and a “beef on weck”. Dan was amazed to see that they also served McSorley’s Ale. McSorley’s Old Ale House is the oldest bar in NYC, and when we lived in NYC many Coast Guard luncheons were held there. Because of “grandfather” provisions in NYC laws, McSorley’s has only one bathroom for all sexes. In fact Dan is one of the few people that has a key chain given to him by McSorley’s owner – good for one drink! Unfortunately, he has never been back to NYC to use it. As they say at McSorley’s – Be Good or Be Gone!

Trivia – what is a weck?
