01-31AUG20 - Sultan, WA

Saturday, 01AUG, spent getting RV ready for tomorrow’s departure; plus mail-in primary voting.  Sunday morning we finish loading RV & start driving around Puget Sound thru Tacoma to Kitsap Memorial State Park.  Idea is to stay here Sunday/Monday/Tuesday night w/grandkids as part of our grandkid sitting this week.  About three in afternoon daughter Rebecca & husband Raymond showup with Jaxson & Mason.  Great meal by Corrie followed by smores & putting challenge; grandkids are eager to spend night in RV, after parents leaveJ

Monday late morning we head to Shine Tidelands WA State Park across the Hoods Canal Bridge.  We see some people harvesting what look like the worlds biggest snails (turns out they are Moon Snails.  Quick search of internet warns that they are may have high levels of contaminants since they are filter feeders usually in waters/mud flats other filter feeders (clams, oysters, etc) won’t tolerate.  Eventually the harvesters are busted by state F&G, because you still need a license?

From there we go to Fort Flagler WA State Park grandkids like the gun emplacements & walking the beach.  We take a break w/ice cream at Beachcomber Café.  Witness one child almost going out to sea on giant inflatable rubber ducky being blown offshore by wind before parents realize the situation!  Dad has to jump on his paddleboard to catch up to ducky & kid, & then paddle against the wind with ungainly ducky back to shore.  Note - we need to check getting RV spot right on the beach at this park sometime in future.  Back to the RV for major R&R.

Tuesday (CG Day) it is off to Salt Creek Recreation Area.  This is an excellent spot & large are to exam tide pools when the tide is out!  Unfortunately we made the mistake of bringing the two jack terriers; so Corrie had to dog sit on the beach while Dan & kids explored dozens of tide pools for hours.  Then we went to Crescent Beach on Crescent Bay, parking & beach access here is terrible.  That evening Rebecca stops by for dinner.

Wednesday AM takes us awhile to get camp packed-up to head home.  Ferry is delayed by CG inspectionJ  Finally back home & grandkids immediately into the pool.  Adults get the RV emptied & decided to take it easy by picking up Papa Murphy’s pizza.

Thursday, 06AUG, mostly rain all day; luckily had several DVDs from library/kids book work/computers; not much else done.  Friday, Dan’s birthday, sun returns; some mowing done; early evening head to Edmonds ferry to return grandkids home.  Dan’s birthday dinner is take out from Toshi’s Teriyaki – pretty good.

Sunday AM, 09AUG, Dan drives around to Rebecca & Raymond’s to dog sit Gracie, while the Pitre’s head to a vacation at Long Beach, WA.  On Wednesday, 12AUG, Pitres return home & Dan catches ferry back to house.

Sunday, 16AUG, record heat 98 degrees; not much done in the heat just get house ready for picking up grandkids at ferry late afternoon.  Back home everyone jumps in pool before hotdog dinner.  Monday still hot but no record broken; grandkids spend most of day in pool.  Dan fabricates a slip & slide.  Tuesday cloudy until afternoon; leading to an afternoon of pool & using modified/extended slip & slide.

Wednesday not much done other than watching grandsons have water fun.  Early evening weather starts to change.  Thursday, 20AUG, much cooler & grayer.  Start making preps for grandsons departing tomorrow.  Friday light rain all day; Raymond gets off work early, so he comes to the house to pick up the boys (saving us a trip to Edmonds ferry terminal.

Monday AM, 24AUG, Dan departs to help babysit grandkids at their house in east Bremerton.  Plan is for Corrie to stay home & trade places w/Dan Wednesday.  Tuesday Dan sticks around Pitres until early evening & heads back to Sultan.  Wednesday AM Corrie runs errands & takes Rocket to the vet.  Then heads to east Bremerton.  Friday Corrie returns home.

Big projects for the month was Corrie gardening & starting to harvest fruit/veggies (as well as a ton of flowers everywhere).  While Dan replace the rotted bottom of the pump house exterior walls.
