01-12SEP12 - Sultan, WA

Saturday, 01SEP, we headed over to cousin Paul’s & wife Shannon’s house for their son Spenser’s birthday bash, something we did last year (see below BLOG). Not only was almost all of the Peter’s clan there just like last year; but there were also several of Shannon’s relatives on hand this time. Another example that a simple BBQ with family & friends is one of life’s pleasures.

07SEP, Friday, we headed into Seattle to see the Tut exhibit at the Pacific Science Center located at the Seattle Center (site of the 1962 World’s Fair). See the below BLOG for an explanation of the 62 World’s Fair & its impact on creating a lasting cultural gem for the city of Seattle. The below BLOG also gives details on the creation of the Pacific Science Center immediately after the World’s Fair as one of the USA’s first “hands-on” museum aimed at children & teenagers. In recognition of the fifty year anniversary since the World’s Fair, the city has planned lots of free activities covering the same six month period of the original Fair.

We are not sure if the Tut exhibit has been to any other cities in the USA, or will go to other cities; but we know that it is the last time the artifacts will be allowed out of Egypt. So we purchased tickets online to be allowed access at 1030 in the morning. Since we got their early we wandered thru the Pacific Science Museum checking out the dinosaur exhibit, the entomology exhibit (yuck), & the butterfly house (very beautiful). At our appointed time we entered the building for a fascinating two hours. The exhibition starts with several artifacts & displays from Pharaohs preceding Tut (remember the reign of the Pharaohs lasted over 3000 years!); then continues with the discovery of Tut’s tomb by Howard Carter; & finishing with artifacts from each of the four chambers of Tut’s tomb. It was very beautiful as well as extremely educational. Highly recommended!
