After talking about it for over two years, we did it. We are sitting in our RV at Gaudalupe River RV Resort in the Hill Country of Texas as we transition from part time RV'ers to full timers!
Our house in Houma, LA, is up for sale, and hopefully what is left of our household goods shows up here Friday, 06JUL, to go into storage.
We won't bother you with all the details of coming to our final decision, and the trials and tribulations of getting to this point. The short story is that we had planned on significantly down sizing, selling the second car, placing the house on the market, and getting out of LA by late spring. Obviously as can be seen from the date of this first BLOG entry we are behind schedule. Let's just say things started to go haywire with significant hospital stays (all went well thankfully after three trips to hospital); accident to second car (we were not at fault) that took six months to fix; death of our first dog (Roxy); etc; etc. Anyway, we still have too much stuff and will pay to store it in TX; a second car that we will store at Dan's sister's here; and countless minor (hopefully no major ones) details that we will attend to later or hope they don't come back to haunt us.
It was extremely hard and emotional for us to leave Houma! It was the longest that we had ever lived in one location (10 years); the best friends we ever had; the kids (Rebecca and Joe) remaining there; the Cajun culture; and the list goes on. But being RV'ers we know that we will be returning soon and often (especially for Mardi Gras)!
Why Kerrville, TX? First, we have always enjoyed the Hill Country ever since we started RV'ing in DEC03. Second, Dan's sister and husband (Sharon and Tim) recently relocated from Montana to Kerrville, and Dan Ryan Sr just joined Sharon and Tim. Third, although this area is being hit hard by rain, flooding and more importantly hurricanes are not an issue here. So with no more real reasons than those, we decided storing our remaining worldly possession here, was as good as anywhere until we grow up and decide where our permanent home base will be.
We have no idea how long or how far this adventure will take us, but we have an initial itinerary. After dealing with our household goods and the second car here, we will head due north on US Highway 83 to visit Corrie's family in Brandon, Manitoba. After that we will head west to visit Dan's family in Washington State, and to check on our property in Sultan, WA. Probably some time in mid SEP we will head south from Washington to arrive back in TX by OCT, enroute to Louisiana maybe in mid NOV.

Anyway, after setting up camp it was off to Dan's sister, Sharon, and her husband Tim, for a home cooked meal with Dan Sr. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing and playing a card game Tim and Sharon call the "No Name Card Game". We won't attempt to explain the rules of the game in the limited space of this BLOG; especially since Sharon and Tim seem to keep changing the rules every hand!

Dan & Corrie Looks like you guys are of to a great start. I drove a u-haul to Belton, TX last week with my grandsons bedroom and we had rain the whole week. I look forward to reading your blog. I was born in Seatle and always love our visits back to Washington. Take care and be safe.
