Friday AM Dan & Flagg’s head off to Rich (another CGA
Classmate) & Jan Formisano’s for lunch/BBQ/gathering of other CGA Classmates
and spouses/partners who live in the Pacific Northwest (one Classmate drove up
from Bend, OR). Readers of our RV BLOG
will remember that Rich and Jan used to have large annual gatherings on their
property at the end of summer called the River Walk held before covid. Sadly, those
annual events will no longer occur.

Ryan RV Express: 01-31AUG19 - Sultan, WA (misc & prep'ing for road trip)
First stop is Snoqualmie Falls, WA, for a sightseeing walkabout for Dan, Reggie & Cherie. At the Formisano’s there are 12 Classmates and 10 Partners; unfortunately Corrie is dogsitting our dogs☹ Excellent four hours on a beautiful day, and then back to Corrie & dogs.
Saturday AM, 05AUG, Reggie, Cherie & Dan head to Leavenworth, WA, for more sightseeing. Walkabout and lunch at Andreas Keller. Some more walkabout and then German pastries. Back in the car and home to freshen up, for dinner with Corrie at Lewis & Main in Monroe, then home for BS’ing.

Serving Steak & Seafood in downtown Monroe, WA (lewisandmain.com)
Sunday AM everyone slept in a little late before gathering around the dining table for final round of BS’ing, before Flaggs hit the road right at noon to drive home to Denver.
Monday (Dan’s b-day); Dan at food bank first in AM and back
there in evening. In between takes
Rocket to Vet Hospital for follow-up & removal of sutures; all is well. Now we just need lab report on stones removed
from his bladder.
Tuesday Dan runs errands & discovers that his driving
license expired yesterday on his birthday.
At home he goes on line to renew – nope!
A visit is required to nearest DMV because he is over 70☹
Checking
appointments available shows that 3 closest office have no opening until next
week. So Dan picks one for tomorrow one
hour drive away☹ Then he starts mowing lawn ignored for a week.
Wednesday wake up to
light rain; Dan works on getting RV ready for next trip in ten days. Then Dan heads to DMV in Smokey Point to
renew his license. Upon arrival Dan
learns that state DMV computer system has been crashed all day & no
appointments being honored. But as Dan’s
appointment came due, computer system re-booted and Dan got his license.
Thursday, 10AUG, cloudy
day; early dinner and then off to Edmonds ferry to pick up grandboys, Jaxson
& Mason. Plan/schedule was for Dan
to catch 740PM ferry and meet parents Rebecca & Raymond on other side at
820PM to get boys. As we waited on the Edmonds
waterfront we realized ferries were running late and 7PM ferry was still at Edmonds
dock at 735. So Dan ran up boarding ramp
and 7PM ferry left very, very late and got Dan to Kingston at exactly 820PM😊
Friday morning off to Seattle
Coast Guard District Coast Guard Day picnic/celebration. If CG Day is officially 04AUG, why is Seattle
District a week late? Because the city of
Seattle’s biggest celebration is the hydro plane race (called Sea Fair) annually
held the first weekend in AUG. So rather
than compete with Sea Fair, the Coast Guard waits one week, Last Seattle CG Day we attended was 2019.

Ryan RV Express: 01-31AUG19 - Sultan, WA (misc & prep'ing for road trip)
Thanks to covid and its fallout, this the first Seattle CG Day in four years open to all Coasties, Retirees and Friends. Upon arrival Dan discovers he got in car without shoes on (back to the house and shoes for Dan. Grandsons immediately hit their favorite water slide; next four hours spent running from one activity to another (putt/putt golf, outdoor chess, jinga, b-ball, etc) Unfortunately the line for water slide was long all day long and the boys never tried it again.
After a great day it was back to the house for relaxation, late dinner (first alfresco dinner with grandboys this summer) and time in the pool.
Saturday oma shows grandboys how to set a mole trap, which the boys found interesting until they realized that it will be at least a day or never for the trap to be tripped. About lunch time we all headed to the Edmonds ferry terminal to meet the parents. Rebecca and Raymond met us for Dan’s late b-day meal at Demetris Restaurant. After good time & good food, the pitre’s boarded ferry to head home to Silverdale and we drove home to veg out.
Sunday started preparing RV for use at grandboys soccer tournament this week Friday to Sunday on Bainbridge Island. Record heat makes working outside brutal at our age. Early afternoon Dan takes off in truck to drive around thru Tacoma to Rebecca & Raymond’s. Why – to babysit grandsons and get boys to sailing camp this week since both parents working. Too hot to do anything after drive. Rebecca makes excellent white beans and rice (cajun Sunday dinner) followed by slightly late angel food b-day cake for opa.
Monday AM Rebecca & Dan take Jaxson & Mason to Sailing Camp at Bremerton Yacht Club. Not much done rest of day and Dan picks boys up at 330PM and back to house until Rebecca & Raymond off work.
Because of heat dinner was at Peter’s Kitchen which advertises
itself as “ramen & island barbeque” mostly Hawaiian? And there is hole in one of the walls that
allows you to walk over to four “pop-up” restaurant with bobo tea, curries, Korean,
etc. Food was good but too many choices
to be sure of what was ordered.

Tuesday AM, 15AUG, back to sailing camp for the boys and Dan
heads back to house to avoid another record heat day in Seattle Area. Because of heat dinner is at MOD pizza and
then back to house waiting for cool down; boys were supposed to have soccer practice
but a lot of outdoor activities have been canceled or curtailed. Wednesday AM another run to Bainbridge Yacht
for Sailing Camp; again because of heat camp ends early; dinner at Mod Pizza.
Thursday AM Dan takes boys to sail camp and immediately drives around thru Tacoma home to Sultan; then quickly helps Corrie hook up Toad to RV. Then back on road to Edmonds ferry to Kingston; after getting off ferry we drive to RV park outside of Bremerton Island to set up camp. Why? - Because Jaxson and Mason have a soccer tournament (the Island Cup) Friday, Saturday, Sunday, on Bainbridge Island and this will be our base for the games. Off to the Clearwater Casino Resort to get players cards and have dinner at their deli. To Dan there are less and less benefits to players cards. They are only of benefit if you rack-up lots of points (ie gamble a lot at one casino); and there is no more “cheap” food at any casino like in the old days. Their deli prices were more than fast food, & quality was poor.
Friday, 18AUG, before noon we go to first soccer match – mason’s (they get soundly beat); thankfully cloudy all day and heat breaks. Later that evening we head to Pitre’s to help Rebecca with dinner and eat; then back to RV.
Saturday up early and off to first match of the day – Jaxson’s at 815AM; back to RV until next game at 240PM. We also head to Winslow, WA, for walkabout and lunch; we pick Harbour Public House for lunch. Place was packed and had unique ordering system – find a table, then one person stand at bar to place order, you get beeper/buzzer to signal when order ready, go back to bar and get order, eat and leave. Wait staff only clear tables.
The Harbour Public
House - Heritage and Hospitality On Tap
Two different games at 240, one for Mason and one for Jaxson; Raymond covers Mason game; and rest of us ride with Rebecca and cover Jaxson’s.
Finally at 640PM we all converge for Mason last game. Then Rebecca takes Jaxson & us to Casino for takeout dinner to be eaten in the car; finally back to RV at 820PM.
Wednesday, 23AUG, spotty heavy rain in AM; Corrie has medical, looks like small muscle tear in right shoulder needs attention. Meanwhile Rebecca, Jaxson & Mason spend day at Crescent Lake by Port Angeles.
Tuesday, 29AUG, another gray day; not much
done and then Corrie is off to first physical therapy session for right
shoulder. Then we head to Edmonds ferry
to pick up grandsons (Jaxson & Mason); then back home and to bed.
Wednesday Dan takes Jaxson & Mason to Snohomish Aquatic Center. last visit almost a year ago. Boys really enjoy the flowrider!
After dinner boys jump into pool for all of 15 minutes (maybe summer is over🙃?

Ryan RV Express: 01JUN-01JUL22 - Sultan, WA (volunteer work in okanogan)
Thursday (last day of AUG) after breakfast Dan takes boys to Sultan Food Bank where he volunteers several time a month, so they can see what a food community bank does. They work along with other volunteers for two hours before we head back to house for lunch. Corrie had pulmonary appointment; after lunch Dan takes the boys home to Silverdale, baby sits for short time and then heads back to Corrie and house (almost five hours in the car).
