01-05JUL21 - Pacific Beach, WA (🧨celebrating the 4th at a b&b 🎇)

Thursday, 01JUL, not the greatest start to a new month; late AM off to medical appointment so Dan can get biopsy on tongue (benign).  Very simple procedure but pain catches Dan by surprise when novocain wears off.  Spend rest of day getting packed for tomorrow’s trip to Pacific Beach, WA.  Where we will meet Rebecca & grandsons (Jaxson & Mason) for the Fourth at an Air BnB (a first for us).

Friday 8AM we start drive to beat all the forecasted traffic jams forecasted for this post covid holiday.  Find BnB but can’t check into 3PM; so off to Ocean Shores to find lunch spot.  (Pacific Beach very small & it appears only food spot is teriyaki counter in the lone gas station)  Then back to check into BnB (pretty nice w/all comforts of home:)  Then walking on the beach; around 8PM Rebecca & kids arrive.  Then off to the beach for long walk before everyone crashes 10PM.

Saturday AM Corrie & Rebecca walk to the only coffee shop in town.  Then we jump into car & head to Ocean Shores for miniature donuts at Kookamunga’s.  Next we crossed the street to Sharky’s for typical tourist junk.  We walked thru the town of Seabrook which is a “new” town created as a planned seaside community.  Before heading back to Pacific Beach & the beach, where the boys actually got in the frigid water.

That evening we were treated to Jay Jaye one man band playing on the KXPB outdoor stage from 7PM to 10PM (definitely for all those 68 to 74 hard rockers).  The audience never got bigger than 12 people & two dogs.  Back to BnB for s’mores & family games.

Sunday (Happy Fourth🎆) head toward Lake Quinault; small lake surrounded by Quinault Indian Reservation, Olympic National Park & Olympic National Forest.  Check out the Lake Quinault Lodge built in 1926 & bought lunch.  Then drove to worlds tallest Sitka Spruce; then we complete drive around north end of lake & back to the BnB.  Take out dinner (because we couldn’t get reservations) from Ocean Crest Restaurant (highly recommended).  Finally fire off all Rebecca’s fireworks to keep grandkids quiet.  Unfortunately some yahoos keep firing off their fireworks until 2:30AM (everyone manages to sleep thru it, but Dan).

Monday AM clean-up BnB & everyone hits the road by about 0930.  We beat the traffic jams & get home for lunch; unload truck, do laundry & not much else.
