Monday morning (06JUL)
was a beautiful drive south to Seward, AK (we had already driven half the route
when we made our day trip to Whittier, AK, on 03JUL). After setting up camp we headed to town to
visit the Seward Visitor Center, & the Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor
Center. Then it was a walkabout on the
waterfront, & downtown. We decided
to have dinner at the Gold Rush restaurant; we went with 1/2 pound of each of
king crab legs (another restaurant had 1 pound of king crab, 1 pound of snow
crab & 1 pound of dungeness crab for $100!!!).
Tuesday morning Dan
headed out to visit the Exit Glacier & the National Park Nature Center
located there.
After returning to the
RV, Corrie drove Dan into Seward & dropped him off in Seward to catch a
boat tour with Kenai Fjord Tours. Since Corrie
doesn’t handle boats well, so Dan was flying (boating?) solo. On the cruise he saw otters, a steller sea
lion, a pod of Orcas, fin whales, a humpback whale, puffins, mountain goats,
dall porpoise. But not all were close
enough to be clearly captured on filmL!
Cruise included all you can eat buffet on Fox Island (prime rib &
salmon).
Here is a photo of
Mt Marathon where the Mount Marathon race is held in Seward on 4 July, as
discussed in our previous BLOG.
