01-08OCT13 - Houma, LA

Tuesday, 01OCT, we headed back to the Coast Guard Base in east New Orleans to see if Corrie can finally get her new ID after our unsuccessful visit on 12SEP. Turns out the CG ID office is only one open of all the military installations between Biloxi, MS, & the TX Border; because all others have furloughed their civilian workers, but the CG is covering their empty civilian positions with CG Active Duty personnel. Thanks to the CG’s Always Ready attitude, Corrie was finally issued an ID card with proper endorsements.

Turns out the Duong Phuong Vietnamese restaurant is closed on Tuesday so we couldn’t have lunch there like we did on our last visit to the CG Base. We then headed into New Orleans and the brand new Costco that opened less than two weeks ago. Amazingly their gas was $2.99 a gallon!

Thursday, 03OCT, we started to pay attention to Tropical Storm Karen, which the weather services thought could become a hurricane:( The primary reason we sold our house in Houma was because of hurricane seasons. After Katrina (which did not damage our property) we decided enough was enough, & started full time RV’ing in 2007 after selling our house. Because of the possibility of late season hurricanes, we normally return to Houma in late OCT or early NOV. But because of Rebecca’s pregnancy, we returned at the end of AUG this year. Now “just like old times” we need to start thinking about – do we evacuate or shelter in place???

Friday Dan headed over to Joe’s to clean-up his backyard in preparation for possible high winds. Saturday, 05OCT, was our annual flu shots. Sunday it was apparent that Tropical Storm Karen was fizzling out & no big deal.

Monday, 07OCT, Dan headed back to Joe’s & started working on a workbench for the inside the new shop/shed. Tuesday, Dan continues working on the workbench, while Corrie starts caulking nail holes & trim in preparation for painting. Since the hot, rainy, & humid weather has been replaced by sunny & cool weather; we have decided to take off in the RV to Biloxi, MS, for a few days.
